Dr. Dan Bertrand started his educational career as a high school science teacher at Mendon Unity and Olympia High Schools after having earned a B.S. in Biological Science with a minor in Chemistry from Quincy College. He earned a Master of Arts degree in Science Education from Northeast Missouri State University(Truman State). Following the completion of his Masters degree, he earned a Type 75 Administrative Certificate from Northeast Missouri State University. . He served as the defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator at Quincy College for ive years and as a linebacker coach at Illinois State University for one year. Following his college coaching experience, he returned to public education teaching for two years in Normal Community Unit School District #5. While teaching in Unit #5, he completed the requirements for a Superintendent's Certificate from Illinois State University. His first administrative position was at Roanoke-Benson High School where he served as high school principal for three years. He became the principal at Kaneland High School in 1995 where he stayed for nine years. He earned his Doctoral degree in Education Administration from Northern Illinois University in 1995, His dissertation was entitled "A Comparison of Student Achievement in Selected Illinois HIgh Schools Using Different Schedulng Models". He became Superintendent at Marengo Community High School District #154in 2005. Since 2005, he has also served as an Adjunct Professor for Aurora University teaching: Curriculum Development, Supervisory Behavior, Comtemporary Issues in Educational Leadership, Introduction to the Practicum and Practicum for Educational Leadership. Additionally, he has taught for Northern Illinois Universityin the areas of the Principalship, Supervisory Behavior, Educational Policy, and Supervision of Educational Personnel.
